Introducing: IAMSOYOUNG28

At FOTU we’re welcoming autumn with the release of a new collection. An even more visceral exploration of universal patterns, IAMSOYOUNG28 is all about the power of sight – visual example of the cross section between science and mysticism.

As well as debuting new pieces, IAMSOYOUNG28 introduces a new range of prints based on the experience of seeing. Dominant hues include mystical blues and pinks as we play with a new era of designs, guided as always by our principals of sustainability and individuality. 

 

Founder and Designer Abigail began creating the artwork prints in response to the presence of the incredible performers around her. Much of the collection is concerned with the concept of the evil eye prevalent in these environments; despite inspiring awe and radiating brilliance, these artists also expose themselves to the unfortunate reality of envy, bitterness and subtle negativity. Those who feel threatened by their power can sometimes respond in such a way, and it demands courage to shield yourself from sentiments like these. This collection was designed with the aim of repelling these negative emotions from the wearer, clothing can be like armour, a delicate form of protection.

Seeing the microscopic images captured by eye scientist, SoYoung Cho, served to reinforce these ideas. The prints reflect what can be seen of an eye through a microscope – SoYoung’s work with rat eyes revealed patterns of unexpected depth and synchronicity which feel familiar. In fact, these formations seem to mirror those revealed in our galaxy as well as those seen in coral arrangements. This collection is a natural next step from previous prints, this time with a heavy emphasis on the different ways in which sight is symbolic. We hope these designs make you reconsider how the forces of power, envy and vulnerability exert themselves in our lives.

Beginning with intuitively painting in response to these ideas, the artwork was developed through digital means. This included blending artwork with real photographs of friends’ eyes, whilst also incorporating personal motifs of luck - the number 28, stars, and the colour blue have all featured habitually in this project. We were lucky to work with Parisian designer Tahel Dalsace, who assisted in fully integrating the symbolism into all the designs. As a result, they are more than just prints; they are tapestries of intention, infused with positive blessings and good fortune. 

 

The new collection is now live on our website. As per previous collections, most pieces are made from RPET recycled plastic, providing the flexible and dynamic mesh fabric on which the prints are able to come alive. Shop IAMSOYOUNG28 at your leisure ⭐︎
